“Transfer(ence)s”
an art exhibition by Carole Ann Wilson

Saturday, May 3, 2008 June 30, 2008
Carole Ann Wilson is a Los Angeles based visual artist who uses mixed media as her mode of expression. Carole developed as an artist during her 13 year psychoanalytic psychotherapy with Dr. Michael L. McGrail, now deceased. During Carole's treatment there was a psychological impact on her art and an artistic impact on her psychotherapy. In large part Carole's art is about sorting out the strands of this mix and weaving a coherent whole using collage, assemblage and narrative boxes. Through the use of symbolism, mythology and cultural icons Carole explores dreams, fantasy and the psycho-sexual-spiritual aspects of life.

Presentation: Art and Creativity, A Dialogue
Kathleen Free, Ph.D., Psychoanalyst (Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, Virginia Psychoanalytic Society), Clinical Psychologist, Art Therapist and artist.
Dr. Free will talk about the creative process using concepts derived from the British Object Relation Theory. After a theoretical introduction she will dialogue with the artist to clarify specific symbolic representations in her work. They will explore how these representations relate to the artist’s transference, therapeutic process, cultural imagery and mythology.
